November 8th, 2004: The Assault on Fallujah

Picture
The Assault on Fallujah was an invasion by the United Sates on November 8th, 2004 in the city of Fallujah. This assault was made up of a mix 2000 American and 600 Iraqi solders. It was believed that there were between 1000 to 6000 insurgents in the city. They seemed to be very organized and fought in small groups of three to twenty people. Despite this organization, the United States was very close to the heart of the city two days later. They were able to achieve this through a series air strikes, artillery, armor, and infantry units. They gained the city with the cost of ten US troops killed and twenty two wounded after the first two days. 85-90 insurgents were also reported dead within the first two days. After the United States took control of the city, they started to search the whole town house to house in search of any insurgents left in the town. They also were looking for any stockpiles of weapons. When searching the city the United States solders did find many large stockpiles of weapons. During the invasion ht United States used such heavy artillery the town was left devastated. Many buildings, homes, offices, and innocent lives were lost. Many people didn’t approve of the use of such weapons to take just one city. They did not agree that that many innocent lives had to be lost. This was, in the opinion of many, not a good tactic and the US military should find better ways to fight the enemy and not the innocent.
